Our Story
The Early Days
From our humble beginnings in the early 1980s to the vibrant destination we are today, Lowden Garden Centre has always been rooted in the land — and in our commitment to community, quality and sustainability.
Nurturing a love of nature, good food and local life.
A Journey Grown from Nature
What began as a small nursery focused on shrubs, herbaceous plants and bedding grew steadily into something much more. Situated near Shaw in Wiltshire, we evolved alongside the gardens, homes and lifestyles of our neighbours.
Over time, we added a full-scale garden centre, a farm shop celebrating local produce, and a restaurant that brings our fresh ingredients to the table.
Lowden has always been family-run, deeply local, and anchored in the everyday. Whether it’s a customer browsing plant aisles, family lunch in the restaurant, or someone selecting a thoughtful gift, we’ve built a place where people feel welcome, inspired and at ease.
In every corner you’ll find evidence of that original garden-nursery spirit — expert advice, genuine care and a love of plants, food and the outdoors.
Sustainability & Local Values
From day one we’ve believed in doing things differently. Selecting local growers, supportive producers, and keeping our environmental footprint low are values we live by.
These are not add-ons — they are part of who we are. We look after the land, the people, and the food we serve, and in return we invite you into a space that celebrates the best of Wiltshire and its surroundings.
All our heat is generated by on site Biomass boilers & most of our electricity is generated by our ever expanding amount of solar panels.
Looking Forward
As we continue to grow and adapt, one thing remains the same: we’re committed to making Lowden a place for discovery, connection and simple joy.
Whether you’re here for plants, food, gifts or just a moment’s calm — we hope you’ll feel the same sense of belonging we do.
